Concern At Falling Off Of Membership
Concern at the falling off in membership in the men’s section of the club was expressed by the president, Dr E. Hefford, at a meeting of the Whakatane Surf Life Saving Club. Unless a drive for members was undertaken soon he said the time was fast approaching when there would be no active men members. Although he was pleased to see that thb women’s section was very strong he felt that strong men’s teams would give the club even greater strength. Other speakers expressed similar concern and it was decided to try to encourage more young men to join the club. A meeting is to be held about the middle of December and if further male members are not forthcoming the club is to be changed into a purely' women’s surf club. \
It was emphasised at the meeting that a larger male membership was now required to man a surf boat donated to the club and expected to prove a valuable acquisition to the club’s equipment. The club already possesses two surf skiis.
