No Fires At Ohope

Lighting of fires in the open at Ohope is prohibited until further notice, states the rural fire officer, Mr R. D. Stirling. Arrangements have been made for novelty shoots, including a “bring a trophy” competition. Destruction Averted Possible destruction of the Taneatua overhead bridge by fire was averted on Monday w'hen Mr F. McCallion, of Whakatane, discovered a considerable grass fire beneath it. He and other motorists extinguished the fire.

Lodge Christmas Party The combined Whakatane and Edgecumbe Druids Lodges will hold their annual Christmas party at the Edgecumbe Domain on Sunday.
