No Fires At Ohope
Lighting of fires in the open at Ohope is prohibited until further notice, states the rural fire officer, Mr R. D. Stirling. National Show ' The national show of the Dominion Gladiolus Federation will be held in Whakatane next Wednesday, the first occasion on which it has been held away from a main centre. Miniature Rifles , The Whakatane Legion Miniature Rifle Club will hold its annual Christmas picnic shoot on the Valley Road range on Sunday. Arrangements have been made for novelty shoots, including a “bring a trophy” competition. Destruction Averted Possible destruction of the Taneatua overhead bridge by fire was averted on Monday w'hen Mr F. McCallion, of Whakatane, discovered a considerable grass fire beneath it. He and other motorists extinguished the fire.
Lodge Christmas Party The combined Whakatane and Edgecumbe Druids Lodges will hold their annual Christmas party at the Edgecumbe Domain on Sunday. The main attraction is a grand Christmas tree for all members’ children of 12 years and under.
