BAY OF PLENTY BEACON Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1950 5,000 CLUB
There is a pleasing aspect about the proposal to form a Club in Whakatane. Clubs of this nature have been successful in many towns. Their function is to “get behind” activities which lead to the progress of towns. That Whakatane will achieve a 5,000 population mark of its own accord, there is little doubt but it will be all to the good if it is helped along by a progressive body.' The town and district, in spite of their shortcomings, have much to offer residents, businessmen generally and industrialists. A 5,000 Club could publicise Whakatane sufficiently to attract outside notice to its attractions.
