Teachers Farewelled At Taneatua
An afternoon gathering of parents and pupils was held at the Taneatua School on Wednesday to farewell Miss J. Sisam and Miss B. Brunton, both of whom are leaving to be married. Items by the children preceded the speeches Maori children’s action songs were a feature. Mr R. McGougan, chairman of the School Committee, expressed regret that two teachers were leaving simultaneously. Miss Sisam an “old girl” of the district, had taught at the school for 14 years and would be very hard to replace. Miss Brunton had been there for two years. Mr Grant, headmaster, thanked Mis Sisam for the way she had assumed the responsibility at the school during his absence in hospital, and revealed to the parents the 1 shortcomings in equipment at the school, which he said had not delayed the progress of the children, due mainly to Miss Sisam’s ininitive and capability. Following a speech by Mr Butler, the presentation from the children and school committee was made by Ken Reniti and Beverley Butler. Miss Sisam received a silver tea service and a lace supper cloth and Miss Brunton a Shelley china tea' set. Miss Sisam, replying on behalf of Miss Brunton and herself, thanked all concerned for the gifts, the children for the concert, and parents for, the co-operation which had always been forthcoming and made a for parents to find board for the new teachers who would be filling the positions vacated by the resignations.
