FAREWELLED AFTER 16 YEARS AT TANEATUA
A farewell dance was held at the Taneatua hall on Tuesday when Mr and Mrs H. C. Alexander, who are leaving to reside in Whakatane after 16 years residence at Taneatua Hotel, were guests of honour. Visitors from Waimana and Whakatane were present and King’s Orchestra supplied the music for the occasion. Mrs E. Hill, speaking on behalf of the Patriotic and Red Gross Committes, of both of which Mrs Alexander was a member, thanked her for the help she had given during the period when both were active societies, and on behalf of the ladies Croquet Club, asked Mrs Alexander to accept a gift. Mr J. Moody speaking for residents and friends, eulogised Mr Alexander’s efforts for the district and on their behalf asked Mr and Mrs Alexander to accept a Westminster chiming clock and a dinner set.
Mr Alexander, replying, thanked Mr Moody for his remarks, and the residents for the gifts. They would serve to remind them of the many happy years spent at Taneatua, especially when the clock struck “six.”
