A Watt Cup tennis match was played between Whakatane B and Taneatua at Whakatane on Sunday. Whakatane won by 13-3. Whakatane ladies had a field day, winning all matches they required to.play in. The men’s matches were shared. Results (Whakatane names first): Ladies’ Singles: Mrs McKenzie beat Miss Peebles 6/3, 6/2; Miss Righton beat Mrs Tebbutt 6/3, 6/1; Miss Mahy beat Mrs Tuhoro 6/4, 6/2; Miss Moore beat Miss Brunton 6/2, 6/3. Men’s Singles: W. Rutherford beat A. Wardlaw 3/6, 6/5, 8/6; J. Snodgrass lost to B. McGougan 5/6, 2/6; C. Wells lost to J. Semmens 2/6, 5/6; E. Blair beat G. Grey 6/2, 6/1.
Ladies’ Doubles: Mrs McKenzie and Miss Mahy beat Miss Peebles and Mrs Tebbutt 6/2, 6/4; Misses Righton and Moore beat Miss Brunton and Mrs Tuhoro 6/5, 6/2. Men’s Doubles: Rutherford and Snodgrass lost to Wardlaw and McGougan 3/6, 4/6; Wells and Blair beat Semmens and Grey 6/4, 6/5.
Combined Doubles: Rutherford and Mrs McKenzie beat Wardlaw and Miss Peebles 6/3, 6/5; Snodgrass and Miss Righton beat McGougan and Mrs Tebbutt 6/3, 6/4; Wells and Mists Mahy beat Semmens and Mrs Tuhoro 2/6, 6/3, 6/1; Blair and Miss Moore beat Grey and Miss Brunton 6/4, 6/4.
