Rod And Gun Club’s Shoot
The Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club held a club shoot on Sunday. Club shooters from Rotorua, Te Puke and districts enjoyed a good day’s shooting although in the afternoon gusty wind and rain made the sighting of the birds difficult.
The main events on the programme were the Norwich Cup, a £ls trophy shoot, and the club championship for the Lodge Cup. In the club championship event, J. Plamus was the winner following a shootoff with J. Tebbutt. Some indication of the difficult shooting conditions may be gained by the fact that the winner and runner-up shot 13 out of a possible 15 birds. Never ~ theless, Plamus’s win was well received as he is a most consistent and accurate shooter although, strangely enough, he has far greater success at other shoots than on his home ground. The Norwich Cup was won by W. Mayo who shot the possible 10 birds with the greatest ease.
In the £ls trophy event, W. Hume was successful shooting the possible of 10 birds and a shoot-oS between W. C. Davies, J. McLeod and Franklin resulted in Davies. 2, and J. McLeod. 3. Other results: —
Ten Bird Eye-opener: W. Kenyon, J. McLeod, W. Mayo and R. Sloane shot the possible. ' Ten Bird Sweep: W. Hume, McLeod shot 10. Messrs Dippie, Tebbutt, Plamus, Brown, Jackson, Franklin and Trott, divided third money.
Ten Bird Sweep: Five shooters shot the possible they being W. Kenyon, R. S. Ricketts, J. Tebbutt, K. Tebbutt and J. McLeod. Seven Bird Gim-Crack: R. S. Ricketts, K. Tebbutt and R. Sloane shot the possible. .... j
