Interest in Pony Clubs Running High
With the opening of the new season and. T the formation of new branches interest in the Whakatane Pony Club is running high. A well attended committee meeting last week drew up a tentative programme of activities for the season, including inter-club rally for the club “Rally Cup’- 1 a trek into the Manawahe district, another to Cheddar Valley. The annual gymkhana will be held in January and it is hoped to wind the season up with a rodeo.
Pony Clubs are now in full swing in Te Puke and Tauranga and every endesfcljjjSfcr is going to be made to bring young riders from these two clubs to compete in the Whakatane gymkhana in January and this should be a good testing ground for local riders. A meeting between head instructors, commissioners, and secretaries of the three clubs, Tauranga, Te Puke and Whakatane, is' being arranged to take place during November to discuss pony club matters and the forming of a provincial' committee with a view to holding provincial gymkhanas in the future. Apart from these club events, the branches will carry on with their own local rallies and, in spite of the threatening weather, the opening rally of the Edgecumbe branch was a great success and a good muster of riders from Thornton-Matata, Whakatane and White Pine branches gave a demonstration of the pony club work under the instruction of Mr Davis. An impromptu jumping competition was won by Betty Magee of Thornton-Matata and the instructors events by Dr. Blomfield.
