UNITED AND EDGECUMBE WIN CRICKET GAMES
United and Edgecumbe won the season’s first official cricket matches on Saturday. United v P. & T. United defeated P. and T. on the first innings with four wickets in hand in the closing over of \ the match played at the Showgronds.
P. and T. won the toss and elected to bat. The first wicket fell at 21 when Cleland was bowled l.b.w. by McKenzie for 8. Another wicket fell • shortly afterwards when Burt was bowled by McKenzie for 4. Then followed a partnership between Martin and McCready which yielded 27 runs before the fall of tfie third wicket. Wickets fell regularly and the innings ended all out for 167. Bowling for United McKenzie took 5 wickets for 49 runs, Carling 2 for 8, Le Pine 1 for 46. United’s first wicket fell cheaply when McKenzie was bowled by Munroe fbr 0. Then followed a strong second partnership between Bull and Wyatt which yielded 71 runs. The following batsmen maintained a steady rate of scoring to reach the total of 168 for 6.

Top scorers for Edgecumbe were Brown 59, Revell 13 and Thurlow 12.
For High School Fitzsimmons scored 20, Butler 21, Ross 29. Ross bowled steadily to subdue most batsmen including Brown to return 3 for 43.
