SEVENTEEN NOMINATIONS FOR BOROUGH COUNCIL
Seventeen would-be Borough Councillors will take their chances at the Municipal elections in Whakatane on November 18. There are nine seats to be filled.
For the first time in 25 years, there will be a Mayoral election, two nominations having been received. An election will be necessary to find Borough representatives on the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board as Mrs D. C. Petty has been nominated to oppose two sitting members.
Only the two sitting borough members of the Whakatane Harbour Board have been nominated. Persons nominated since "Thursday afternoon, with their nominators’ names in parentheses, are:— For Mayor: S. S. Shapley (D. V. Saunders and F. P. McCgllion). For the Council: R. Cobbe (H. M. Dewar and C. L. Hudson), A. Hall (L. W. Sisam and G. Otley), W. S. Henderson (F. Prideaux and J. A. Stewart), E. R. Hunt (S. H. Cave and K. A. Needham), K. Jarrett (C. M. Lennie and W. Jarrett), J. N. S. Patterson (B. S. Barry and H. G. Cutler), J. W. G. Smith (K. A Needham and S S. Shapley), G. L. Washer (J. O. Kelsey and H. A. Wales).
For the Hospital Board,’ Mrs D. C. Petty (J. P. Green and R. S. Buttimore).
