Motor Cyclists Check Through

Motor cycling enthusiasts greeted the 36 competitors who checked through Whakatane on Saturday night on the John Bull 24 hour trial. Arriving here at about minute intervals, the riders, who seemed remarkably fresh after their long ride all said they were enjoying the run. The scene adjoining the local pie cart and Whittle’s cycle shop was in bright contrast to the rest of the main street as competitors and assistants made routine checks and adjustments to machines. The emergency petarol station was also a “must” for each rider, as soon as he had clocked in with Mr F. Cameron, who was in charge of the activities here.

Broadly, their route was Auckland to Taupo, through Rotorua to Whakatane thence to Tauranga and on to Thames, where a stop was made for breakfast. From there across the Hauraki Plains, through back roads to Papakura, and finally along the concrete to Auckland.
