WILL IT BE FINE FOR LABOUR WEEKEND

Will it be fine for Labour weekend? So much rain has fallen in the last week that Whakatane and district residents are hoping . that, for once, the answer will be in the positive. Chief concern of residents seems to be to seek fine weather elsewhere. Bookings from the town to all parts of the North Island are heavy. This is a wet season in any part of New Zealand, however. There will not be a lot to keep Whakatane people at home. Organised sport will not be great, except for the golf club’s annual tournament, the 70 visitors for which will tax accommodation.

For many, the Rotorua races will be the big draw.

Shops will be closed from tonight until Tuesday morning. The Beacon by the way, will not be published on Monday.
