Maoris Concerned About Idle Land

Judging by replies he had received from discussions with Maori landowners, Maoris were just as concerned over the problem of idle land as Europeans, the chairman, Mr R. Dunning, Otakiri, told the Bay of Plenty sub-provincial executive of Federated Farmers, Auckland Province at a meeting in Whakatane. He said that Maoris wanted the situation cleared up as soon as possible. They realised that the land was no good to anyone just lying idle growing weeds and not bringing in money.

“Their replies to me coincided very closely with those of Europeans,” Mr Dunning concluded.
