CANOE MAY BE OFFERED TO TOWN

Subject to the consent of two families which claim ownership, the canoe which represented the Mata-atua at the sexcentennial celebrations will be presented to the Whakatane Borough Council. This gift is intended as a token of appreciation of pakeha co-opera-tion at the celebrations. A condition will be that the canoe will be placed in a public place and will be kept in good condition. The families concerned are being contacted for their approval.
