LONG NAME OF A. & P. SOCIETY QUESTIONED
The rather long and cumbersome title of the Whakatane and Rangitaiki Agricultural and Pastoral Society was a subject of discussion at the annual meeting of the society. Various suggestions were made to change it but no final decision was reached.
The chairman, Mr I. B. Gow, said he thought the name was too cumbersome but it was the result of the amalgamation of two societies some years ago. Supporters of the old Rangitaiki society had been keen to retain the name of the district in the title. Mr G. R. Yeoman said he. had been waiting for some time now for a Rangitaiki person to come forward and sugest a change of name. He thought the name should be “Whakatane” to denote the couqty, as the show “is a county show.” Mr Gow: I would have no objection to a change.
Before the subject was dropped there was . one suggestion that the organisation should be called the Bay of Plenty society, but no decision was reached.
