BAY OF PLENTY BEACON Published Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1950 FEDERATED FARMERS’ DISPUTE
The rights and wrongs of two organisations of Federated Farmers in this district are again coming before the public eye. One group, the executive of the Bay of Plenty Province, writes that, being approved in Wellington, it is the official body. The other, the executive of a sub-province of Auckland, states that it has a right to its organisation.
The anomaly is that, while Dominion headquarters has given official sanction to the former, the Auckland office is giving its support and the organisation of its staff to the latter.
This paper, within the limits of news value and staff available will give equal and unbiassed reports of each body’s doings and it will not state which it believes to be right or wrong. But that one body or the other is wrong is obvious. That an organisation of the size and national importance as Federated Farmers should allow the present state of dissent to continue is almost inconceivable. The welfare of Federated Farmers in the Bay of Plenty is jeopardised while this state does continue.
