Council To Review Salaries For Officers

The salaries of administrative officers of the Whakatane Borough Council will be the subject of a report from the finance committee, it was decided on Monday night.

Discussion arose when it was recommended that the salary of Mr L. D. Lovelock, as clerk to the Domain Board, be increased from £26 to £52 a year. Cr E. R. Dillicar supported by the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, considered that Mr Lovelock should be paid one adequate salary to cover all his duties.

Cr Dillicar referred to the fact that the borough foreman, Mr C. D. Molesworth, received no salary from the Domain Board.

Mr Barry said that new awards were bringing the award workers too near in salary to the administrative workers. Cr Dillicar said that, whereas claims were being made for meterreaders to receive £440 for a 40hour week, the foreman received £550 for more like a 60-hour week The matter was referred to the finance committee.
