AND NOW THEY HAVE SMASHED FIBROLITE ROOF
The belief that someone had deliberately walked on the roof of the convenience at the Rock was expressed by the foreman, Mr C. D. Molesworth, to the Whakatane Borough Council on Monday night. The roof is of fibrolite.
"The roof is shot. It has had it," said Mr Molesworth. The Council decided to renew the roof with the .most solid material available.
When councillors referred to the continual vandalism, Cr H. G. Warren said the only cure would be a full-time attendant.
in that case, said the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, an attendant would be needed at the rest room also.
The suggestion that the night watchman employed by business premises should be paid to watch the buildings was made by Cr R, T. Morpeth. There was an absolute disregard for property in the town, said Mr Molesworth. Road barricades were smashed down, petrol was taken from trucks, he said. "You can't leave anything around. You can't leave jobs half finished," was his comment.
"I don't know why at least it can't be lessened. It's prevalent throughout the Borough," said Mr Barry. It was decided to explore Cr Morpeth's suggestion.
