League Of Mothers Holds A Meeting

A large gathering of members and friends was presided over by the president, Mrs J. Metcalfe, who extended a welcome to all present at a meeting of the League of Mothers. The roll call, “Something of Interest” was well responded to. Many and varied articles were on display for members to view Mrs Te Hira Fergusson was the speaker for the afternoon and gave a talk on her experiences as a maternity nursing sister in the Salvation Army Bethamy Homes throughout New Zealand. She spoke of the different types of patients, and drew comparisons of the married and unmarried mothers, and pointed out that, through the kindness and understanding, and shelter that these girls and women receive in the homes, many are brought to an acceptance of the Christian faith and are so enabled and encouraged to a higher and a nobler way of living.

At the conclusion of her address, Mrs Fergusson was accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray. Two vocal duets were given by Mesdames T. H. Fergusson and Metcalfe.

A bring and buy stall was well stocked.

Hostesses were Mesdames Shaw and Woolliams snr.
