Final Meeting Of Awakeri Parents And Teachers

The final meeting of the Awakeri Parent-Teacher Association for the 1950 season took place on Thursday. More than 40 members attended. It was decided to act on the advice of the A.A. in supporting the project of a footpath/ from the school towards the station. The head teacher, Mr E. G. Anderson, in answer to an enquiry concerning the restricting of the use of Janet and John readers gave a detailed explanation of the aims of the new reading scheme and showed how indiscriminate teaching by parents could nullify those aims. , The men and women then entertained for approximately an hour each, after which a succulent weaner donated by Mr George Lodge, was piped in along with a variety of tasty dishes prepared by the men. Mr Len Broadmore delighted his audience with two trumpet solos. Winners of competitions were: The Derby, Mrs J. Hutton; blind-folded artists, Mrs F. Lasenby; paper hat designers, Mr D. Wilson; floral quiz, Mr W. G. Bunyan. Special thanks go to R. Byrne for professional assistance.
