RUMOURS ABOUT THE COUNCIL
Roumour fills the Whakatane air about who will or will not be standing for the Borough Council. The Beacon checked on four with negative results. Mr F. R. Canning and Mr F. McCallion both said “No” without qualification. Said Mr Noel Hockin, to whom approaches have been made: “I have too much to do for the next fe\y years.” Mr B. L. Butler, president-of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce: U I feel as if I should but I just won’t have the time for the next few years.”
