Who Should Pay For Funeral Of Horse, Council Asked

How a motorist who had struck and killed a straying horse refused to pay for its burial (worth £2 10s) was described at a meeting of the Whakatane County Council yesterday, when it was recommended -that he be, sued for the amount. It was a funny law which required a man to be responsible for such a burial, said Cr A. F. McGougan. The motorist might have been killed himself. The owner of the horse could not be ascertained, said the clerk, Mr C. G. Lucas.

It was decided to sue. “We might get some enlightenment then,” said Cr L. W. Luxton.
