All Challenges Must Be Played During This Season
All challenges for the Ranfurly Shield not played at the time Otago lost it must be played this season. This decision was reached by the appeals committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union following an appeal lodged by the North Auckland Rugby Union. The committee ruled that all challenges not played by Canterbury are passed on to Wairarapa. The appeals committee, Messrs H. Frost, J. Conlan and P. Shaw, has communicated to the executive of the North Auckland Rugby Union its decision. “The executive considers that the matches carried over should be played as soon as possible in the same sequence as originally arranged. “It rules, therefore, that the South Canterbury-Wairarapa match should be played on September 16, or on any date mutually agreed upon, on or before September 27, but not including September 23. !“Failing mutual agreement, the matches South Canterbury-Wairar-apa and North Auckland-Wairarapa or South Canterbury as the case may be must be played on September 16 and 30 respectively “Whichever union holds ' the shield after the South CanterburyWairarapa match must play North Auckland on September 30. “It has not been the practice to play Ranfurly Shield matches on the day of-the North-South matcr-i and the New Zealand union cannot agree to any shield match being played on September 23, the date of this year’s ' inter-island match.”
