Members Remember Members of th Whakatane Rowing Club observed a moment’s silence on Wednesday night as a mark of respect to the late Messrs J. Pyne and G. Drayson, who were once active members of the club. Mr Pyne was one of the club’s three life members.

Croquet 500 Mesdames J. Pledger, D. King, W. Howat and Cruse Snr. received the booby prizes at the Croquet 500 card afternoon held in the club pavilion on Wednesday afternoon. The winners were Mesdames Needham Snr., L. Needham, M. Grey and C. Roulston. The competition was won by Mrs L. Needham.

Fire Brigade Dance Coloured lights and gay fern decorations provided a festive atmosphere for the annual dance of the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade on' Saturday night. Music was supplied by the 8.8. C. Band of Opotiki and the Superintendent of the brigade, Mr T. Hurndell, thanked the large crowd for their attendance. Visitors were present from many parts of the Bay of Plenty.

Druids Cards

Mesdames F. Wederell, R. Brown, C. Roulston and M. Townsend cut for the prize at the Druids 500 card evening held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday. Mrs Wederell was succesful and Mr C. Loane won the men’s prize. The booby winners were Mr Williams and Mrs J. Hanright. Mr J. Hanright on first prize and Mrs J. Williams second in a competition.
