STATE HOUSES NEARLY FINISHED; NO NEW CONTRACTS

With 16 State rental house's _in Tuhoe Avenue nearing completion no new contracts have been let in Whakatane.

This “hanging-fire” of new contracts is similar to the position Which prevails in most country towns. In view, however, of the fact that State sections in the town have not been offered for sale, it is believed that more State rental houses Will be built here. Of the 16 houses now under construction, some are more nearly finished than others. It is expected that carpenters will give way to sub-contractors within a month and that the houses will be ready for occupation before Christmas.
