Whakatane Archers Open New Season
The Whakatane Archery Club opened its new season on Saturday and was visited by Otakiri members.
Mr R. Hunter, President of the Whakatane Club, welcomed the visitors and wished all good shooting this season. Mr A. E. Smith replied on behalf of the Otakirj Club.
An Olympic round saw Otakiri members- top the list in the men’s section and the highest score of the day was shot by W. Campbell, Otakiri, with 704. A novelty balloon shoot was won by the Otakiri club. The Olympic round, 90 arrows at 30 yards, resulted. Otakiri (O), Whakatane (W): — Ladies: Mrs R. Hunter (W) 648, Mrs L. Foote (O) 605, Mrs J. CHIMNEY FIRE
A chimney fire at the residence of Mr Arthur Kilgour, Landing Road, caused the calling out of the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade last evening. The fire was quickly extinguished.
