Bay Of Plenty Boys Registering For Military Service
In the last few months there has been very little trouble with 18-year-olds failing to register in the Bay of Plenty, according to the district officer of the Labour Department in Tauranga, Mr H. J. Whittington. The position was much improved and registrations were coming in regularly from all centres throughout the Bay of Plenty. Mr Whittington said that no special check was being made but when wage books of Bay of Plenty employers were checked notice was taken of 18-year-olds employees to see if they had registered. This was carried out as a regular routine.
No special check is envisaged in the Bay of Plenty as is now being done in Wellington. Labour and Employment Department field officers there are under instructions to check wage books of Wellington employers and to notify all cases discovered.
