Women’s Institutes Meet At Waimana And Nukuhou

The attendance was quite good at the Waimana Women’s Institute monthly meeting on Wednesday. Mrs Hewitt presided, and took the opportunity to thank all members who had helped to make the twentyfirst birthday celebrations a success.

Mrs McCallion’s letter wps read. Mrs Wyde gave a full repori on the conference held in Christchurch. Birthday sprays were presented to members having birthdays this month.

Mrs J. Boynton, a member who had lost her home by fire, was presented with many gifts from members. Mrs Boynton thanked all for the gifts and all previous help.

On the recommendation of the gardening circle, it was decided to have a small show at the October meeting. Final plans were made for the dressmaking course. The roll call, my worst moment, was well responded to.

Competitions were judged by Mrs Rust and Mrs Potter, the results being:— Best single flower, Mrs N. Eagle 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Miss J. Stevens 3; multiple bloom, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Kelsen 2, Miss Stevens 3; best vegetable, Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs C. White 2, Mrs Hewitt and Mrs M. King equal 3; low bowl modern arrangement, Mrs Wylde 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Bell and Mrs L. MacDonald equal 3; article from sugar bag, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Hodgson 2, Mrs Bell 3; marmalade, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs White 2, Mrs Bell 3.

NUKUHOU The September meeting of the Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held last Mrs McGillivray presided. It was decided to begin meetings at 8 p.m. and they will be held in the school, on the first Wednesday each month during the dressmaking course.

Mrs H. Spanhake reported on the Eisteddfod meeting held in Whakatane,

Mrs M. King gave a full report on the conference held in Christchurch. The Federation president’s letter was read. Arrangements for the dressmaking course were finalised. The sales table did brisk business.
