NEW EXCHANGE AT MURUPARA TO BE OPENED
The Murupara automatic manual telephone exchange will be officially opened on October 7 and it is understood that the settlers have invited the Post-master-General, Mr J. Broadfoot, to perform the ceremony.
This exchange, providing a 24hour service, will open with 138 subscribers, who will be able to dial among themselves and get direct communication through tolls with Te Teko, Whakatane, Opotiki, Matata, Taneatua, Waimana and Roto rua.
Mr H. J. Myerscough, section engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department, informed the Beacon that, after this job had been completed, a telephone service to Minginui Forest would be proceeded with. This work would take about one month.
Galatea and Kopyriki telephone offices would be closed at the Same time as the Murupara exchange came into operation, as they would be attached to this exchange.
