Passenger's View Of Motor Cycle Club Reliability Trial
Interested by recent press correspondence on Motor Cycle Club control of riders, on Sunday last a Beacon reporter accepted an invitation to see at first hand how riders behave on a reliability trial, and went through the trial as a passenger on one machine! Leaving the Rock at 10 a.m. competitors travelled to Taneatua, through Stanley Track, Ohope Beach and returned via Hillcrest to Paterson's paddock on the Taneatua road.
j Speed limits and road rules appeared to be carefully adhered to, and on the winding hill section I through Stanley Track it was obI vious that all riders were exercisI ing great care. A check point at Ohope Beach for signals and«road manners caused no one any trouble, and from then to the finishing point, the same full consideration for all road users was apparent. After lunch the mud hazard part of the trial, at which the Beacon did not ride as passenger, gace full j vent to the exuberant spirits of the ' riders and caused considerable j amusement to the onlookers. I Results:— j Time and Mud Trial: J. Flavell 350 Velocette 37, 1; R. Woods 350 A.J.S. 39, 2; H. Lowe 500 A.J.S. 43, i 3; I. McGlashen 350 Matchless 59, 14.
The cup for the best performance in mud hazard was won by T. i Woods, who lost only 21 points.
