£6OO Profit
A profit of £6OO has resulted from the last Whakatane Winter Show. This represents a slight increase on the return from last year’s show.
Druids Lodge Cards Mrs L. Newman and Mr Derecourt were the winners of the weekly 500 card evening held by the Whakatane Druids Lodge in the Parish Hall on Tuesday. The booby prizes went to Mrs Roulston and Mr J. Hanright.
In The Rain
Ste&dy rain swept most parts of the Bay of Plenty and East Coast districts yesterday. Few outdoor functions were being held but two golf championships were affected. These were being held at Rotorua and Gisborne. The annual Rotorua basketball tournament is expected to start today but will probably be cancelled if rain continues to fall. Over Night Stop ( Returning from a tour of the East Coast the Waikato representative Rugby team broke its journey home at Whakatane on Wednesday night. The team played East Coast and took a 5-0 win on Tuesday and left Wednesday morning. It spent the night at the Commercial Hotel and then resumed the journey home yesterday.
