TAURANGA BODIES TO TALK ABOUT HARBOUR MATTERS
A special conference of interested local bodies in the Tauranga district and those parts of the Bay of Plenty and Waikato concerned with the establishment of a deep sea port on the Tauranga harbour, has been called by the Tauranga Harbour Board for tomorrow.
The conference, which is to be held in Tauranga, will consider the presentation of evidence to be submitted to the committee of inquiry recently set up by the Government to consider the location of a port for the Bay of Plenty and will be asked to reaffirm that Mount Maunganui should be the site for the port. This decision was reached at a meeting of representatives of the Tauranga Harbour Board, the Tauranga Borough Council*, the Tauranga County Council, and the Mount Maunganui Borough Council, called to consider the question, by the Mayor of Tauranga, Mr Lv R. Wilkinson.
The meeting also recommended that Mr H. O. Cooney, should be engaged to handle the case for presentation to the committee, with authority to call on the Tauranga local body solicitors and resolved that the Government be urged to release for free publication the earlier report covering investigations made by Government experts regarding the establishment of a port on the Tauranga harbour.
