R.S.A. HAS BRIGHT THIRD TOURNAMENT
Eighty-five players were on the course for ' the third annual golf tournament of the Whakatane R.S.A. yesterday. Visitors were present from Rotorua, Springfield, Te Puke, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Opotiki, Heretaung'a Miramar, Waimana and Te Tfeko. With fine, cool weather, and good arrangements for inner comfort, all players enjoyed their day.
A morning bogey round was won by G. C. Tippett (Whakatane) 5up. Hidden hole winner was T. C. Burnett (Springfield) 10 at the tenth. An afternoon stableford was won by N. A. Canning (Whakatane), with 38 points. R. Lambie (Opotiki) returned the best nett score for 36 holes 138. Best gross score was reported by A. E. Conway (Whakatane), 156. Ted Hefford (Whakatane), with 218, took the trophy for the highest nett score. Members and visitors were welcomed 'bjr Mr T. Macken, president of the Whakatane R.S.A., who thanked the Whakatane Golf Club for the use of course.
In the absence of the wives of the president and vice-president, trophies were presented by Mrs L. Roach, wife of the secretary. : Catering arrangements were in the hands of wives and friends of members. Starters and card recorders were N. Hockin, R.- Morpeth and C. Hyland. E. Sloane and J. Slipper managed the “rigger.” D. Morpeth, W. Henderson, K. Hannah and F. McCallion served liquid refreshments. L. Roach was organising secretary.
