RECLASSIFICATION OF WHAKATANE COUNTY ROADS
New classification of roads in the Whakatane County has been approved by the Minister of Transport. Most of the roads are classified class 4 but a number are in classes 2 and 3. This reclassification means that some roads are jiow classified to carry heavier loads but other roads have had their loads decreased. The Whakatane County Council has decided that any permit issued for a passenger service vehicle to Galatea will be subject to speed
restrictions. They will be limited to a speed of 30 m.p.h. on the Te TekoGalatea Road and 15 m.p.h. through the Waiohou Bluffs. The following are the new classifications: — Class II: Main Highways: West Bank, Whakatane Station, Te TekoAwakeri via Edgecumbe. Class III: Whakatane-Kutarere via Ohope. County Roads: Waimana Township, Ruddick’s, TaneatuaRuatoki, Paper Mills, Railway East, East Bank North, Western Drain. Class IV: Main Highway: Rotoma-
Matata: County Roads: Bell’s, Lowe’s, Railway West,' River sleaOtakiri, Te Teko-Galatea, Stanley, Gow’s, Bright’s, Minginui, Onepu-Braemar-Awakaponga, Matahi (Manawahe), Grieve’s, Military, Te Teko-Matahina-Murupara, Onepu Springs, East Bank South, Eastern Boundary, Angle, Luxton’s, Marshall’s, Raroa, McCoy’s, Mclvor, Kendall’s, Pikowai, Herepuru, Caverhill’s, Kuhawaea. New road classification discs are being erected.
