CONSTABLE ON THE TRAIL; GAOL FOR THEFT OF FOWLS
Because, when it was reported to him that five fowls, the property of Elizabeth Wardlaw, and valued at £2 10s, had been stolen, Constable Thomassen followed a trail of feathers and footmarks, two men appeared in the Whakatane Court. They -were Mika Tiopira, 35, and Maraki Hori, 24. Pleading guilty to theft, they were sentenced by Messrs C. S. Armstrong and C. G. Lucas, J. P’s, to 14 days’ imprisonment. By the time the men were accosted, they had eaten two of the fowls and had killed the others.
The offence took place at Waimana.
