EFFORT TO HAVE CUT ELIMINATED AT WHAKATANE

A determined attempt to have the night power cut eliminated immediately is being made by the Whakatane Borough Council.

How far was the town from the elimination of blackouts, the Mayor, Mr’B. S. Barry, was asked at Monday’s Council meeting. As far as ever, apparently, was the reply. The town clerk, Mr L. D. Lovelock, said that he had already written to the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Board detailing the consumption position and asking that the 10.30 to midnight cut be done away with. The Council endorsed this action and decided to communicate with the State Hydro-electric Department by telegram if discussion with the power board did not produce a satisfactory reply.
