Committee Set Up To Investigate Bay Of Plenty Port Schemes
The Government has decided to set lip a special committee of three to investigate the harbour schemes for the Bay of Plenty. This is contained in advice received by the chairman of the Whakatane Harbour Board today from the Hon. W. Sullivan. This is the outcome of representations made by the chairman, Mr W. R. Boon, the engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, and an eminent harbour consulting enginer, Mr H. Vickerman, Wellington, and Mr G. H. Mackley, chairman of directors of the Whakatane Board Mills, when they waited on the Prime Minister recently. They placed the Whakatane port proposal before the Minister and received an attentive hearing. They urged that an independant committee of three be set up to investigate the Bay harbour schemes.
