Large Crowd Attends 21st Anniversary Of Awakeri W.D.F.F.
Decorated with greenery and bowls of flowers, the Awakeri Hall presented a gay appearance last Tuesday night for the 21st birthday party of the Awakeri Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. There was a large attendance and a happy time was enjoyed during the evening. The president, Mrs Haultain, welcomed visitors.
Several enjoyable dance items were given by Miss J. Miller’s pupils, two delightful vocal duets by Mrs N. Carter and Mr H. Carter, who were later in the evening requested to sing again. The “Awakeri Gold Diggers” complete in costume, sang and acted “Ten Pretty Girls” and received much applause.
A competition, tearing a pig from a piece of paper, was won by Mr T. Corbett.
Opportunitty was taken to present Mrs Brizzle as a life member of the branch and in presenting the special certificate, Mrs Haultain said that this was one of the highest honours that could be conferred on a division member. Several limericks about division members caused much amusement. A beautifully iced birthday cake, decorated with 21 candles, held pride of place. The candles were lit by Mrs Luke, blown out by Mrs Barr and the cake cut by Mrs Brizzle. These three ladies are all foundation members of the branch. Another foundation member present, was the president. Mrs Haultain.
Speakers at the function were Mrs Hayward, Taneatua, Mrs McCray, Opotiki, and Mr W. Luxton, Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club. A delicious supper was served, followed by dancing, music being supplied by Miss Miller.
