Whakatane League Of Mothers Celebrates 21st Anniversary
The Whakatane Branch, League of Mothers, celebrated their 21st birthday in the Knox Presbyterian Hall on Thursday. The hall was beautifully decorated with flowers and fern and Mrs Metcalfe, the president, read telegrams and other messages of congratulation, and welcomed the many visitors who were present. ■' A large number of foundation members were in attendance, and included Mrs W. Sullivan the first president, Mrs James the first secretary, and Mrs C. A. Suckling treasurer, who occupied positions of honour on the stage and were presented with bouquets. Other foundation members present were each given a beautiLil shoulder spray. The varied programme included the following items, which proved very popular: Whakatane W.I. Play; Piano Duet, Mesdames A. Breward and Dodds; Musical monologue, Mrs Hepburn and Miss Rogers; Magician, W. Tyssen; Violin Solo, Mrs R. H. Larmer; Character duet Mesdames Te Hira Fergusson and P. Davies;, Vocal solos, Mrs H. Moore and J. Denham. Mrs F. Cole conducted a qri's, which proved very popular and the winning team received a large box of home-made sweets. At the con elusion of the evening the birthday cake,"made by Mrs W. Sullivan and iced by Mrs F. Lysaght, was cut and a buffet supper enjoyed by all present.
