QUOTA SYSTEM OF SAVING POWER IS READY TO START

The individual quota system of saving power, which has been in preparation by the Whakatane Borough Council in place of the present blackout cuts, is to be introduced into the Borough immediately and should be in full operation

within the next fortnight. Both domestic and commercial consumers are being placed on an individual allocation and they will be advised of their quotas within the next ten days. ’ Cuts ’ are to stop as soon as possible.

The electricity committee of the council has now adopted and finalised a scale which sets out the quota allowance applicable to each

domestic consumer according to the number of persons in each house and the permitted electrical appliances in use.

Cuts To Cease The council has advised the manager of the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Board that it has finalised the quota scale and has asked for the immediate lifting of the 6.30 to 7.30 and 10.30 evening power as soon as the quota system is in full operation. The ration scheme approved by the Council has been worked out, taking into consideration the actual consumption of consumers within the Borough and ration schemes in operation in other supply areas. The Council considers th&t such a scheme it has adopted is fair and reasonable under existing circumstances. Consumers have the right to appeal, but, they are asked to give the scheme a fair trial before appealing. The response given to the Council in' the past has been greatly appreciated and continued support will ensure that all consumers will derive the greatest benefit from the

limited supply available until such time as the Government is able to increase its power resources, )the town clerk, Mr L. D. Lovelock, said yesterday.
