STRONG TEAM TO DEFEND MOORE SHIELD Following their defeat of Rangitaiki for the Moore Shield the Whakatane B Rugby team will defend the trophy for the first time against Galatea at Whakatane on August 5. Expecting Galatea to make a strong bid the Whakatane selector, Mr N. Semmens, has chosen what appears to be one of the strongest B teams Whakatane has had for some years:—
Full back, Thatcher' (Taneatua); three-quarters, Martin (Wairaka), Harawira, Tawa (Paroa); fiveeighths, Carter (Wairaka), Rutherford (United); half back, Tiepa (Poroporo); back ow, Howat (United); middle row, L. O. Stewart (United), Foreman (Taneatua), Hudson (Wairaka), Kopae (Poroporo); front row, Copeland (Wairaka), Ruffles (United), Tuapawa (Poroporo). Reserves: Backs, Mokai (Paroa), J. WHAKATANE & RANGITAIKI JUNIOR TEAMS • The main games in both the Whakatane and Rangitaiki Rugby SubUnions "on Saturday will be junior representative matches in the Shalfoon Shield knockout series. At Matata Rangitaiki plays Te Puke while at Whakatane a strong team from Apanui will meet Whakatane. Both Whakatane and Rangitaiki have selected strong teams:— WHAKATANE JUNIORS

Although the Whakatane junior representative Rugby team will be playing Apanui as the main game for the Shalfoon Shield at 2.45 p.m. on Saturday both senior and third grade competition matches will be continued as usual. There will be one senior and two third grade games at Whakatane, the other senior match being between Taneatua and Ruatoki at Taneatua. The draw:
Senior: Paroa v Wairaka No. 1, 1.15 p.m.; United v Poroporo No. 2 3 p.m.; Taneatua v Ruatoki at Taneatua 3 p.m. Third Grade: School B v Ruatoki No. 2, noon; School A v United No. 1, 1 p.m.; Paroa a bye.
MATATA CURTAIN RAISER As a curtain raiser to the Shalfoon Shield match at Matata on Saturday the two Rangitaiki leading senior teams, Matata and Edgecumbe, will play the final of the competition.
