Women's Institutes Present Plays In New Whakatane Hall
l, The Women's Institute Hall, Wha- ' ' katane, was filled to capacity for the presentation of four drama festival plays by Eastern Bay of Plenty Institutes. The Whakatane Institute presented a comedy "The Goose Chase." One of the players in this comedy, Mrs T. Mortenson, was awarded first prize at the Taneatua Drama Festival as best character actress for her characterisation of "Aunt Pops." This was followed by another comedy "In These Hard Times" presented by the Matata Women's Institute. After the interval two dramas were responsible for the remainder of the programme. "Shadows of the South" presented by the Whakatane W.I. and "Postman's Knock" by the younger members of the Edgecumbe Women's Institute. The last play was awarded first place at the Drama Festival. All four plays were well received . and reflect great credit on the Institutes concerned.
