Successful Variety Concert Staged At Edgecumbe

The Central Theatre, Edgecumbe, was filled to capacity recently when ihe Edgecumbe District ParentTeacher Association presented ’ enjoyable variety concert of music, mirth and song. The proceeds went to the school funds.

A chorus by the school children opened the programme. Other items contributed were: Piano solos by Joan Colebrook, Dorothy and Anthony Thompson. Those taking part in several humorous sketches were, Misses E. Clibborn, O. Stewart, B. Shaw, M. Webb, Mesdames D. McCorquindale and Whiteley. Mr and Mrs J. Gow and Messrs T. Holden, K. Seymour, A. Hopkins, J. H. Pattison, H. Lopdell and A. Blake. Several musical numbers by the popular trio, Messrs H. Lopdell (piano), E. G. Anderson (cello) and A. Blake (violin). Songs by Miss Lois Hawkins and Mr H. Sarter. Humorous monologues by Marjorie Hadkins, Mrs I. Hepburn, Miss Rogers and Mr Seymour. Cornet solos by Mr L. Broadmore. Those of Miss Millar’s pupils who took part, highland fling, Anne Catherine Withy, Valerie Orr, Judy Plank and Betty Bunn; Irish jig, Ngaire Cole and Howard Plank; clog waltz, Margaret Andresen; sailor’s hornpipe, Barbara Cole; song and tap duo, Marjorie Hawkins and Howard Plank; Chinese ballet, Patricia Walsh, Patricia Meikle, Margaret Vickery, Anne Pattison.

Waimana Women’s Institute Holds Impromptu Debate Mrs G. Hewitt presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Waimana Women’s Institute. It was decided to hold the 21st birthday on August 7 and sister institutes are to be invited. An impromptu debate on time payment proved popular. A musical parcel was won by Mrs J. Addison. Competition results:—
