NEW LIBRARIAN IS APPOINTED FOR WHAKATANE

Although a full time librarian has been appointed for the Whakatane Public Library the library will not be opened until about a fortnight when final touches to the renovating and cataloguing of all books will be completed. The new librarian is Miss A. M. Brodrick, of Taihape, who is expected to take up her duties in August.

Until Miss Brodrick * arrives at Whakatane the library will be in charge of an officer from the Country Library Service, who is expected to arrive this week to complete the work of preparing the books.

Miss Brodrick has been librarian for the Taihape Borough Council for the last seven years and is fully experienced in her work. Prior to this appointment she studied under the Country Library Service. Before Miss Brodrick can take up her new duties accommodation has to be found in the town. The Whakatane Library Committee is keen to find, some place for her to live. Either to board or flat. If there is any house available it will be acceptable too. An improvement has been made in the Whakatane Library since renovations were first commenced. Extra shelves and cupboards have been constructed while the interior has been made much brighter with glossy paint.
