N.Z. Dairy Produce For Export Showed Decrease In May

Creamery butter graded for export in New Zealand for May, 1950, showed a decrease of 1964 tons compared with the corresponding month the previous year, according to figures issued by the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture. Figures for cheese for May, 1950, showed an increase of 307 tons over those for the same period the previous year.

Creamery butter graded for export for the ten -months ended May 31, 1950, totalled 140,435 tons compared with 141,129 tons for the same period in 1948-4*9. The figures for cheese for the same 10 month period showed an increase of 5634 tons.

If the figures are converted into butterfat equivalent, there is an increase of about 1 per cent in butterfat graded for the 10 months as compared with the corresponding period of the preceding season. The figures refer only to butter and cheese graded for export, and because of diversions which take place from time to time they do not necessarily reflect actual trends of production on the farm.
