HOW TO BUY GOOD GRASS SEED

Questions & Answers

(By E. R. Marryatt, Field Instructor, Whakatane)

Question: What seed should I byiy for unploughable land? Answer: The answer given in the previously published question applies here. Because of the unsuitable seed bed on unploughable land, however, it is even more important to sow only the best seed and it is wise to keep the rate to the acre well down. A seeding of 201 b to the acre will give as good results on unploughable land as will one of 401 b and will cost a good deal less. The main points in seeding of unploughable land are a small initial seeding of the best seed plus a heavy initial fertilising followed by spelling in the following December to allow re-seeding of what has already established.
