SPECIAL BOUTS FOR FIRST TOURNAMENT A special middle-weight sixround bout between Bruce Caverhill, Matata, afid Ted Rudolph, Auckland, will be the main fight of the night at the Whakatane Boxing Association’s first tournament of the season to be held on July 15. Both boys are noted as rugged fighters and it is expected to be one of the best bouts yet seen at Whakatane for some years; Another special bout has also been arranged for the Whakatane bantamweight, lan McKenzie, against a fighter yet to be nominated by the Auckland Boxing Association. Large entries are expected for the tournament from Auckland, Mangakino, Rotorua and Mount Maunganui while the Whakatane and Matata schools, both of which have been in full swing for some time, have intimated that they will not be lagging with their entries.

Basketball Cancelled No basketball was played at Whakatane on Saturday became of heavy rain, which waterlogged the courts. Rugby and golf fixtures were also cancelled, although hockey was played at Edgecumbe and rugby league at Ruatoki. Most sportsmen remained at home to listen to the Rugby test between New Zealand and British Isles, Which was played in fine but overcast weather at Wellington. New Zealand won 6-3.
