BAY PORT MUST GO SOMEWHERE SAYS MINISTER
The establishment of a deepwater port in the Bay of Plenty was still under discussion, stated the Minister of Labour, Mr Sullivan, during a recent visit to the Bay district.
“It has to go somewhere,” he said. “ T t is very important that bottlenecks be cleared or the situation will get progressively worse.” No decision has yet been made as to how the projected pulp industry at Murupara would be capitalised, . said the Minister. Investigations were being made by a Cabinet sub-committee but it would take some time to reach a decision.
It had not even yet been decided whether the project would be centred at Murupara. “There is no doubt that the worthiness of the project is there.” Mr Sullivan added.
