Thornton Loses Y.F.C. Debate To Ngakura
Representing Rotorua the Ngakura team defeated Thornton by 311 points to 299 in the young farmers’ club inter-district debate held at Awakeri. The adjudicator was Mr A. E. Spratt, Te Puke, who considered that the standard of debating of both teams was particularly good. The subject was “that the farming of marginal land should be subsidised by the State.” The teams were:—
Ngakura (negative): W. Matthewson jnr. (leader), K. Swindlehurst, 8. Campbell. Thornton (affirmative): IV. H. Fisher (leader), Plcttt Gow, F. E. J. Broadmore.
