WHAKATANE PLAYERS MAKE BAY TEAM

Five players have been selected from Whakatane for the Bay of Plenty junior representative rugby team to play Poverty Bay as a curtain raiser to the British IslesCombined game at Gisborne on June 21. In addition another Whakatane player has been chosen as a. reserve back. The team was selected after the Whakatane-Opotiki game last Saturday.

The team will leave Whakatane by bus for Gisborne at 11 a.m. next Tuesday. The team: — Full back, R. Heta (Whakatane); three-quarters, M. Brown {Whakatane), C. Burrell (Tauranga), G Abott (Opotiki); five-eighths, G Moore (Opotiki, Captain), Munroe (Rotorua); half back, S. Hahunga (Rotorua); back row, B. Neal (Tauranga); middle row, R. Brothers (Rotorua), A. Pryor (Whakatlanie, vice-capt), Langden (Te Puke), G. Conn (Rangitaiki); front row, R. Boynton (Opotiki), B. Tunui (Whakatane), T. Moeke (Whakatane). Reserves: Fonvards, R. Wilson (Opotiki), H. Roberts (Rotorua); backs, R. Stead (Rotorua), N. Simpson (Whakatane). • EDGECUMBE-TE TEKO IN FRONT With the second round finishing on Saturday Edgecumbe new leads the senior competition in the Rangitaiki Rugby Sub-Union with Te Teko. In the junior grade Edgecumbe are so far unbeaten. The games for Saturday are:— Seniors: Edgecumbe v Thornton, at Edgecumbe, 2.30 p.m. referee, J. Hyland; Matata v Te Teko at Matata 2 p.m., B. Smith. Juniors: Edgecumbe v Matata at Edgecumbe 1 p.m., A. Hegh; Te Teko v Otakiri at Te Teko 1 p.m., A, Kinley. FOUR DAYS TRAINING Before the combined Bay of Plenty-East Coast-Poverty Bay rugby team plays the British Isles at Gisborne next Wednesday it will have four clear days training together. All players are to gather at Gisborne on Friday and the team is to play Poverty Bay on Saturday. Following the match players will train together for the next three days in preparation for the international game. TEAM FOR WEEK-END
